Terres Affranchies, wines that dare to be extraordinary by challenging their Burgundy origins. Francine Picard is creating new wines crafted from grapes grown in the Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise terroirs. Proud of their Vin de France designation, Terres Affranchies assert their practical originality, a reminder of wine history, a desire to share and enjoy, whilst embracing environmental responsibility.

We explore the authentic Burgundy terroirs to offer unique creations. Terres Affranchies is all about bold thinking: how can we continue to create top-quality wines, which are adapted to this unprecedented and challenging time of climate change? By observing, by doing our research, and by breaking the shackles associated with a standardised way of thinking. We got as close as possible to our terroir by planting grape varieties that are now better adapted to the types of soil present as well as the changing climate, and by experimenting with the blending together of red and white grape varieties. This surprising marriage gives rise to wines that are delectable, fresh and complex. They offer a unique sensory experience that invites the wine drinker to just sit back and enjoy them.

A Tribute to Heritage: Wines in honour of the Pioneers

Terres Affranchies pays tribute to the agronomists of the past, such as Magon, Pliny, Columella and Palladius, without whom Burgundy would not be Burgundy. The real instigators of our world of wine, these pioneers were able to think outside the box and shape our world of agriculture and winegrowing. Each of our wines is named in their honour, reflecting our respect for their research work and legacy.

With Terres Affranchies, Francine Picard is taking the team at the Domaine down the road of a holistic eco-friendly approach from the Earth to the Bottle. We are working to reduce our environmental footprint by growing our vines using organic methods that preserve the soil and biodiversity. Our bottles are designed to minimise their environmental impact: they are lightweight and capsule-free. Sugar cane fibre corks and labels with inks based on natural pigments are also part of this eco-friendly approach.
